Turnips/Rutabagas are easily grown from seed in Saskatchewan. Flea beetles (early season) and root maggots may provide significant problems, but high populations of root maggots result in excessive levels of root damage of both turnip and rutbaga in most locations and years in Saskatchewan.
- Golden Ball (ABN, TS, BCH) – This variety is less susceptible to root maggot damage, but its orange-yellow colour may not be appealing to all consumers.
- Purple Top White Globe (BUR, EFG) – Good yields of purple topped, white bottomed roots.
- Royal Crown (SW) – Later maturing purple variety with good yields.
